Vatican’s Official Announcement: Pope Francis Has Died

“At 9:45, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, announced the death of Pope Francis from Casa Santa Marta with the following words:

‘Dear brothers and sisters, with profound sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the Father’s house. His entire life was dedicated to serving the Lord and His Church.'”

He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with faithfulness and more courage, with universal love, especially with courage, with the most spoken of love, in favor of the most widespread. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we entrust the soul of Pope Francis to the boundless mercy of the One and Triune God.”

The Pope was admitted to Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital on Friday, February 14, 2025, after suffering for several days from a bronchitis crisis.

Pope Francis’ clinical situation gradually worsened, and his doctors diagnosed him with bilateral pneumonia on Tuesday, February 18.

After 38 days of hospitalization, the late Pope returned to his residence in the Vatican, at Casa Santa Marta, to continue his recovery.

In 1957, at the age of 20, Jorge Mario Bergoglio underwent surgery in his native Argentina to remove a portion of his lung that had been affected by a severe respiratory infection.

As he aged, Pope Francis frequently suffered from respiratory crises, even canceling a planned visit to the United Arab Emirates in November 2023 due to the flu and lung inflammation,” Vatican representatives said.
